The predominant views and values of New Zealand society were increasingly challenged as Kiwis took to the streets to save the environment and express their views on a range of social issues, including feminism, gay rights and abortion.

In this 1971 photo members of the Ecology Action Group carry crosses listing a number of perceived ecological disasters.
