- Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand -
Photographs, sounds, moving images, documents, graphs and maps are combined
with text in Te Ara - the Encyclopedia
of New Zealand . The first group of entries, about the people
of New Zealand , and an overview, New
Zealand In Brief , are just the beginning of what will become a comprehensive
guide to the natural environment, history, culture, economics, institutions,
peoples and social development of this country published over the next. The
site also features a digital version of the complete 1966
Encyclopaedia of New Zealand by A.H. McLintock.
- New Zealand Official Yearbook -
2000 edition on line- this contains a timeline in its 'People' section - scroll
to bottom of page. Provided through Statistics New Zealand. Note that this
link goes to the Statistics Dept home page from where you can find the Yearbook
using their search engine.

of New Zealand Defence Forces 1860-1863, including NZ Cross winners, statistics
on those killed and wounded and a list of further sources.
- New Zealand history site
including essays on the Moriori, early explorers, the NZ wars, 19th century
colonisation and M.J. Savage. Created by Robin Whitmore, an ex-pat Kiwi living
in France.

in NZ and the South Pacific - a rapidly expanding collection of articles
and stories developed by Anthony Flude. Contents include: the Circular Saw

- DNZB online - the Dictionary
of New Zealand Biography went online on Saturday, 1 December 2001 and
was officially launched by the Prime Minister on 19 February 2002. The site
contains all 3049 biographies from the five-volume DNZB series (and
its parallel Maori-language volumes), fully searchable in a wide variety of
ways; over 1800 images to date; and a substantial new feature - Our Land,
Our People - presenting 'snapshots' of historical events and trends in graphics
and text, including a good number of animated and interactive features adapted
from the New Zealand Historical Atlas. The URL is: http://www.dnzb.govt.nz

- NZ Historic Places Trust
Register - this exciting new site holds Register entries for about 1,000
historic structures, historic areas, and wahi tapu - covering all the Trust's
Category I historic places and some Category II. Some records associated with
these register entries are displayed: there are photos and reports for many
places, and in some instances there are very detailed reports. The database
is searchable in a variety of ways including by region, by building type,
by architect and by date of construction. The Trust will be adding new register
entries, records and photographs every couple of months.
- Books New Zealand - an internet
bookshop which includes a wide selection of New Zealand history books arranged
by author.
- NZine - a website that allows the public
to contribute articles or comment on those of others - includes a New
Zealand History section
- Naval History
timeline - provided by the Royal New Zealand Navy.
- New Zealand in History - website created by Robbie Whitmore, an expat living
in France. Contains lots of useful information including a timeline and
NZ famous firsts page.
